Cross the highest pass Tizi n-Tichka (2260m) and finally be enchanted by the mystical Marrakech, which offers a firework of impressions at the end of this trip.
Immerse yourself in the wild landscapes of the Anti-Atlas Mountains in southern Morocco. Marvel at the dramatic scenery: red rocky gorges, lush green oases, almond groves and argan tree forests pass you by. Experience the local Berber culture up close as you explore the mountain towns of Tiznit and Tafraout. Tafraout, a small town at around 1000 meters in the western Anti-Atlas, is the center of the Chleuh mountain group. In the evening, take part in the life of the small town of Tafraout and watch the babouche sellers making their colorful leather shoes.
From Tafraoute, you will continue your journey today through breathtaking landscapes and reach Taroudant. After a short drive, you will first visit an old house in the village of Oumesnat, known as the Maison Traditionelle. This is also a small ethnographic museum that offers insights into the traditional way of life of the Ammels, a Berber tribe of the Chleuh. The Ammeln Valley is one of the most beautiful areas in the Anti-Atlas and boasts countless almond and olive trees as well as impressive granite walls that look like eagles’ nests. The route leads through picturesque villages, castles and breathtaking landscapes to Taroudant. Once the first capital of Morocco, Taroudant is known for its craftsmanship in jewelry and carpets. The town is also famous for its argan oil and the world’s most aromatic saffron.
After arriving at the hotel, you will have time to stroll along the 6-kilometer-long city walls with their 130 towers. Overnight stay in Taroudant.
After a leisurely breakfast, you set off for Taznakht, a well-known Berber carpet village, and then continue your journey to Foum Zguid. From here, the route takes you along the Foum Zguid track, where you leave civilization behind and reach the dried-up Lake Iriki and the dunes of Erg Chegaga. Experience the solitude of the desert on a rocking camel ride through the dunes of Erg Chegaga. The beauty of the elegantly curved dunes, which radiate an orange glow in certain light, is impressive. Overnight stay in a luxury camp near the dunes of Erg Chegaga with Berber music enriching the atmosphere.
After a relaxed breakfast, the journey today takes you through small dunes and stony deserts to the village of M’hamid el Ghizlane, Morocco’s last outpost before the Algerian border. Here you return to civilization. On the way to Zagora, you make a stop in Tamgroute, known for its green pottery and an old Koran library. The journey then continues to Zagora, where you will spend the night in a hotel and have dinner beforehand.
After fortifying yourself with breakfast at the hotel, you will experience an idyllic drive through the Draa Valley in the morning. Palm groves, Berber settlements and old kasbahs line the route towards Jebel Saghro in the Anti-Atlas. On the route to the Dades Valley, you will discover scattered houses surrounded by palm and almond trees. You cross one of the most impressive passes in the Jebel Saghro, the Tizi n’Tazazert, which lies at 2283 meters. Numerous vantage points offer breathtaking views over the beautiful lunar landscape to plateaus, peaks and the endless expanses of the canyons. In the late afternoon, you will reach the picturesque Dades Valley and spend the night in a hotel there.
In the morning, we head to the Dades Gorge. We then follow the road of the 1000 Kasbahs to Skoura, where you can visit the Kasbah Amredil. In Ouarzazate, the “Hollywood” of Morocco, you will have the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of the film studios. We then continue our journey to Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There we take a walk through the village and spend the night in a kasbah.
After a good breakfast, the journey takes you along the picturesque Ounila Valley with its green oases, olive trees and numerous date palms to Marrakech. On the way, you will visit the old Pasha residence Kasbah Telouet with a local guide. The route then takes you over the Tizi n’Tichka (2260m) in the Atlas Mountains to an altitude of 2260 meters before you reach Marrakech.
The city tour of Marrakech is certainly one of the highlights of your stay in Marrakech. A local German-speaking guide will be at your disposal for this. Marrakech has numerous important cultural monuments, such as the Koutoubia Mosque, the Bahia Palace, the enchanting Saadian tombs, the Menara water basin and the city walls. The special attraction lies in the colorful life in the souks and on the famous square “Djemaa El Fnaa”, where acrobats, storytellers, snake charmers and musicians meet. This city tour will end at noon and you will say goodbye to your tour guide.
You will be picked up at the riad 3 hours before your departure and driven to Marrakech airport. We bid you farewell and say “Beslama” and see you next time in Morocco.
