After breakfast, drive to Casablanca and visit the Hassan II Mosque. The Hassan II Mosque is not only the largest mosque in Casablanca, but also the largest in Africa and the fifth largest in the world! The imposing building stands on a rocky outcrop jutting out into the Atlantic; its minaret is the tallest in the world at 210 meters. The building was completed in 1993, originally designed by Michel Pinseau and built by Bouygues. It is an absolute must-see for any visitor to Casablanca and the only mosque in the city that non-Muslims can visit. The majesty and craftsmanship of this sacred building is breathtaking. On a tour, you can admire the meticulous geometric tiles, the celestial marble inlays, the hand-carved wood and the intricate cedar ceilings. The perfectionism and attention to detail of the artisans involved in the construction are remarkable. From the stucco work to the carpets, many Moroccans have contributed to the construction of the mosque over the years. It is said that 10,000 workers worked on the Hassan II Mosque over the course of 5 years. The building offers space for over 25,000 worshippers inside and many more outside. Then on to Rabat, where you will spend the night today.

Then continue through the Rif Mountains to the blue city of Chefchaouen in the north of the country. Situated between two great peaks, Chefchaouen sometimes looks like a romantic little town with blue and whitewashed, narrow, tall houses nestled in terraces on the mountain slopes. Overnight stay in a hotel/riad.

After breakfast, meet your guide and discover the beautiful, intricate labyrinths of the Old Medina, with its narrow alleyways and souks.
Fès is the oldest of the four royal cities, the country’s center of arts and crafts and the heart of Arab-Moroccan culture. You will first get an overview of the provincial capital, which has around 1.1 million inhabitants. From the Borj Sud fortress, you have a good view of the medina called Fès El Bali, which is located in a basin.
To the southwest of this, on a high plateau, is the district of Fès El Djedid, founded by the Merinids (a medieval Berber dynasty). Your exploration tour starts at the imposing royal palace. You then continue into the medina, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1980. You will take a look inside the former Koranic school Bou Inania and pass the mausoleum of the city’s founder Idris II. Continue to the Kairaouine complex in the heart of the old town. In Merinid times, up to 8,000 students studied theology and Islamic law here. Today, the building’s scholarly past has almost been forgotten; El Kairaouine is now the main mosque of Fès with space for 22,000 worshippers. The rest of the day is at your leisure. Relax in your accommodation or stroll through the souks. In the evening, you are invited to dinner with a Moroccan family.

The route continues southwards and the landscape slowly becomes drier and more barren, but this in no way diminishes its beauty. After lunch in Midelt, continue along the beautiful Ziz Valley, following the old trade caravan route to Erg Chebbi. There we encounter the highest dunes in the south.
