Draa Valley Natural wonders of the Sahara

Duration

9 Days

Description

Following the pace of the dromedaries, you will experience unforgettable moments in the desert of Mhamid el Ghizlane and Erg Chegag. Hiking through the magnificent landscapes of Sidi Naji and Erg Saher, drinking tea in a Berber tent, enjoying delicious food, drumming and dancing with the Berber nomads of the Moroccan Sahara are just as much a part of the experience as a sugared Berber tea by the campfire and spending the night under the roof of a thousand stars or in a tent sheltered from the wind.

Itinerary

You will be picked up at Marrakech airport by your driver and driven to your accommodation in the medina of Marrakech. Overnight stay in a riad with breakfast.

The city tour of Marrakech is certainly one of the highlights of your stay in Marrakech. A local German-speaking guide is available for this purpose. Marrakech has numerous important cultural monuments, such as the Koutoubia Mosque, the Bahia Palace, the enchanting Saadian tombs, the Menara water basin and the city wall. The special attraction lies in the colorful life in the souks and on the famous square “Djemaa El Fnaa”, where acrobats, storytellers, snake charmers and musicians meet. This city tour will end at midday and you will say goodbye to your tour guide.

The next 3 days we hike at the pace of the dromedaries. We start our tour through the green oasis of Mhamid el Ghizlane, and via riverbed, stone desert and dune landscape we reach the “lucky dune” of Erg saher. On this magical sand dune, we experience a magnificent sunset with a view of the endless expanses of the desert with its sand dunes and plateaus. We visit a well near Erg Semer on the Draa River and enjoy the light and solitude of the Moroccan Sahara Desert.

Our cook will spoil us with his delicious meals and we will learn a lot about the culture and life of the nomads in the desert from our Moroccan guide.

In the evening, after a magical sunset, we listen to the sounds of the dromedaries as they return from grazing before enjoying a lovingly prepared dinner of fresh flatbread around the campfire.

We enjoy a last look at the thousand stars and sleep deeply and contentedly, filled with the many impressions of the Sahara.

After sunrise, we enjoy the scenery and atmosphere of the desert over a leisurely breakfast before saying goodbye to our desert friends. We drive through the dry lake of Iriki and leave the desert for Foum Zguid. From here we continue to Ait Ben Haddou, accompanied by the green oases, stony desert and bizarrely shaped mountain ranges. In the afternoon we reach the mud town of Ait Ben Haddou with its old ksars and kasbahs. Overnight stay in a hotel with dinner and breakfast.

Once we are ready, we drive along the beautiful Ounila valley with its green oases, olive trees and many date palms to Telouet, where we can visit the old Pasha residence “Kasbah Telouet”. We then drive over the Tichka Pass at 2260m and reach Marrakech and the souks in the late afternoon. Overnight stay in a riad with breakfast

You will be picked up at the riad 3 hours before your departure and driven to Marrakech airport. We say goodbye to you and say “Beslama” goodbye and see you next time in Morocco.
